Why we love it

If you are looking to do a luxury safari in Sri Lanka then we’d highly recommend Leopard Trails Wilpattu Camp. Leopard Trails are one of the leading safari operators in Sri Lanka and their Wilpattu Camp is our favourite tented operation in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu remains off the main tourist route so you don’t get the crowds that you can find in some of the southern parks and it offers fantastic game viewing and beautiful scenery. They have a fantastic guiding team and a passion for Sri Lankan wildlife and conservation.

The camp:

There is a central mess tent which is used as a lounge and dining area. In the evenings, normally there are drinks around a log fire and dinner is served under the stars, next to the lagoon. The food and drink is exceptional; How a small bush camp with a tented kitchen can produce food of such variety and quality always amazes us. Egg hoppers for breakfast are a great way to start the day and then a picnic lunch in the national park before returning to camp for pre-dinner drinks and a three-course dinner and wines from around the world.

The camp is family friendly and safe for children to stay at. For younger children there is the possibility to add extra beds in the parents tent so that everyone can be in one room.

Highlights and activities

  • Head out on morning, afternoon or full-day game drives into Wilpattu National Park to explore the beautiful landscapes and the game that lives within the park. There is a huge variety of wildlife here and they have regular sightings of leopard, elephant and occasionally bear.
  • Explore the further reaches of the park by taking a picnic lunch with you.
  • Finish off an exciting day on safari with a bush dinner under the stars and the sounds of the Sri Lankan bush all around you.
