Why we love it?

There are hundreds of beachfront villas along the south coast so what makes Mosvold Villa so special?

With 12 bedrooms and plenty of space, Mosvold offers a really exclusive feel but without a huge price tag. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the friendly team of staff go out of their way to make sure you are being well looked after.

The rooms are stylish, cool, luxurious and all but 1 room offer views looking out across the Indian Ocean. The deluxe rooms are worth paying that little bit extra for in our opinion.

Another thing we love, is just being able to walk down directly onto the beautiful, quiet beach and take a swim in the ocean, which isn’t possible at many other properties along this stretch of coast (due to rocks or rips).

The property:

The property consists of three villas which house the 12 bedrooms as well as the main living and dining area. Outside there is a beautiful, spacious garden and a lovely infinity pool with sun-beds looking out over the ocean. Meals can be served in the airy outdoor restaurant or privately in the garden or beach.

What’s to do:

  • A lot of guests are happy to just stay within the hotel and not venture out too far. There is a beautiful beach to wander up and down and also safe swimming for most of the year. For extra RnR a local masseuse can come in on request to help get rid of any final stresses!
  • If you can tear yourselves away from the property then it’s just a short walk to some local bar’s, cafe’s and beaches or a 30 minute drive into Galle Fort with its lovely maze of boutiques and gem stores.
  • Head the other way to Mirissa for some of the best whale watching or shimmy inland to visit tea estates and factories churning out the island’s best-known ‘commodity’.

Eco feature

School for Life by the MM Foundation provides courses on carefully handpicked subjects to those left destitute by the 2004 Tsunami.
– The Mosvold Educational Centre in Balapitiya provides free residential training for orphans & underprivileged girls.
– Construction of houses for poor families affected by the floods in Kalutara.
