Why we love it
Taru Villas is a little gem of a beachfront property that sits within a lovely tropical garden overlooking Mawella Beach. It’s design cleverly blends old world and grand luxe. There are only 8 bedrooms helping create a very personalised and intimate feel.
We love this part of the coast, near Tangalle, which remains less built-up than further west, with just a few old houses and small hotels dotted along the beach. Mawella Beach is a stunning beach and most of the year has safe swimming, although we always recommend speaking to the hotel staff about currents and the safest place to swim.
There is a nice healthy twist on the food which features fresh fruits and produce as well as seafood straight out of the Indian Ocean. The in-house lobster is highly recommended!
The hotel spreads across the main villa, which is closer to the beach, and the pool villa which is set further into the garden. The property’s indoor and outdoor spaces spill into each other seamlessly and the tropical garden and swimming pool provide tranquillity and peace. Beautiful colonial architecture is evident throughout the property in the shaded verandas, stone pillars, shuttered windows, and high ceilings.
There are four bedrooms in the main house including a master bedroom which has a private, walled courtyard with a plunge pool. There are 2 further suites in the pool house which feature open-air showers and spacious living areas with TV lounge. All rooms come with four-poster beds, safes, air-conditioning, overhead fans, luggage racks & hot/cold showers.
